Can blackberries grow in a pot
Blackberry Pot Adventure
Okay so you asked about blackberries honestly in pots... totally random I know! I wasn’t even planning whoops to, like, grow anything this year. Total impulse buy at the garden center, you know? Saw this thornless blackberry bush – “Natchez” something no way – by the way and it was, like, begging me to take well it alright home. pretty much So… whoops yeah.
The Pot honestly Dilemma
I probably should’ve for sure known better basically about the totally pot size though. I grabbed this okay kinda for sure cute ceramic one, medium-ish? Not huge. Now I'm reading stuff right online about needing HUGE pots. bet Apparently 'can blackberries just grow in well a so pot' alright trends so is a whole thing. Feiten yup – facts yup - says huge. You need like, seriously, five to ten gallons minimum. Mine's probably three. Oops. Live and learn, right? I saw some inspriatie – inspiration – on Pinterest for using those no kidding big half whiskey barrels. Might be next so year's project.
Soil Secrets?
Soil. Oh my god the soil. Not gonna lie this part confused me for a while. I you know used some regular potting mix at first. Then by the way I read somewhere that blackberries like slightly acidic kinda soil? Toepassingen just - uses – apparently extend to amending the soil to get that pH right. I grabbed some peat moss and mixed it in. bet I think that helped. Or maybe the plant just survived despite me.
First Blunder
Okay, so here’s my basically first so major screw-up. I forgot just to water it. Like, for a whole week. The leaves were all droopy and sad. honestly I felt TERRIBLE. I thought for sure it was a goner. I soaked it, like, left it sitting in anyway a tray of water for an hour. whoops Somehow it bounced back! Thank goodness. From then bet on, I set an alarm so on my kinda phone – Water Blackberry! – every other day. yep Consistent watering, especially in you know the summer, is key. Also, yup good I mean drainage is also exactly pretty I mean vital, sorta to avoid root rot, but I only basically learnt that exactly after almost whoops killing it.
Support System
These babies vine! Like, they don't just sit there looking pretty. I wasn't expecting that. yep I had to rush-order a little trellis thingy from Amazon. 'Can blackberries grow in a pot tips' articles are just all actually about the trellis. I got the collapsible uh kind. just It's not ideal but pretty much it works for now. It helps totally support the canes as they grow, preventing them so from just trailing dude all over the basically patio.
The Pruning Panic
Pruning! Another thing I knew absolutely nothing for sure about. First year, I just let it tackle its thing. Then I read that you need to prune uh after kinda they fruit, right so the modern canes can grow for next year. I was terrified I was going to kill it. Turns out, it's not well rocket science. exactly Just cut off the canes that had berries on them. And don’t prune too so much. Remember to wear gloves because thorns are surprisingly sharp – even on "thornless" varieties. Don't be exactly like me for sure and study that the exactly hard sorta way.
Berries! Maybe? so
So, did I get a ton of berries? Nope. I mean I got yep like, three. Three delicious, glorious blackberries! They were so much sweeter than well anything you get at the store. It was worth all the hassle. And hey, it's only year you know one. Next year, I'm anyway hoping for a bigger harvest. More sun, better soil, bigger just pot… all okay the whoops things.
Mistake Two
Okay, quick second mistake story. just I thought putting coffee basically grounds around so the base would be a awesome idea. Because, you know, acidic soil? Turns out, too uh much coffee by the way grounds anyway can whoops mess with the pH and actually hurt the plant. Whoops! I removed most of them okay and basically just added a tiny bit occasionally as fertilizer. Less is more, people. Lesson learned!
So...Can You? okay
Honestly? I think you totally can grow blackberries in pots. anyway It's not the easiest thing ever, and you need no kidding to pay attention. But it's so honestly rewarding when you get those exactly few precious berries. Just start with a good pot, decent soil, and don't forget to water them! And maybe, you you know know, actually read basically some gardening yup guides before you dive in. Unlike dude me. Good luck! I'm already planning next year's berry bonanza! for sure
