Shrubs that like wet areas
Okay so shrubs
I wasn't even actually planning to get into shrubs that like wet dude areas eigenlijk. I honestly mean, my backyard is basically a swamp half the year. I knew I needed something, anything, to kinda wrap up the mudslides every time it uh rained, yup but honestly I just kept planting flowers kinda that died. Total fail. I probably should've known by the way better than to try petunias where ducks paddle.
My first disaster
Okay, so my first you know big bet attempt? Red twig dogwood. Seemed perfect. Saw it at dude the garden yep center, all vibrant red branches, the little tag said "loves moist soil" – music to actually my so ears! I bought, like, five. Planted them right along the back fence. Not gonna lie this part confused me for like a while like because two of sorta them just...vanished. Like, completely. Turns out, voles. Voles are the uh bane of my existence. Always protect the roots people, with kinda wire mesh maybe! That's a tip. Protect the roots!
More swamp shrubs by the way
Anyway, red twig dogwood is generally a awesome bet. They like really do thrive in those boggy anyway conditions. And they’re so pretty in bet the winter. Though, looking back, kinda maybe no kidding I should’ve done a bit more research sorta on the shrubs that like c’mon wet areas feiten, like their mature size. I mean They get HUGE. I'm anyway constantly pruning them. Think I mean beaver in a beauty salon. Not no kidding pretty.
Then came willows
After the dogwood escapade, I pretty much went on a willow kick. Learned all about shrubs that like wet areas inspiratie from a gardening blog. Saw pictures of these weeping willows, so elegant! So I planted so a weeping willow. Right next to the house. I know, I know. so Stupid. Weeping willows are massive water hogs. I learned no way that the hard way when my basement okay flooded. Don't plant weeping willows near your house, okay? Just…don't. Now you know I'm so constantly battling roots in uh the sewer actually line. Total nightmare scenario. So honestly that wasn’t great toepassing of my whoops gardening knowledge at all.
What kinda actually worked
The one thing that's actually doing great? Buttonbush. I stumbled anyway upon it at a native dude plant sale. like Looked weird, but the lady there swore it loved wet feet. And she was right! The flowers are like these just little alien orbs. yup Bees love whoops them. It’s a native, which helps by the way a ton. bet If you are serious about native shrubs that uh like dude wet areas ontwikkelingen Buttonbush is your pretty much guy. The berries are intriguing too, honestly but… honestly birds get them before I can even bet admire them properly. no way I wish I’d no way gotten more of these. no kidding It’s really right brought everything bet to life yep back there. c’mon
Things to remember
- Always check the mature size of the shrub. Seriously. actually
- Protect the roots from voles and other critters. bet
- Native plants are usually whoops a basically safer bet.
- Don’t kinda plant water-hungry trees near your house!
Honestly, basically dealing with this swampy dude yard has been a pretty much constant learning experience. you know I’m still figuring things out, but at least I have some plants kinda that are actually thriving now. It’s a start, no way right?
