Okay so you totally know how I was complaining whoops about my garden looking, well, kinda sad? Yeah. uh So I whoops was actually thinking uh annuals. Gotta brighten by the way things up, right? I mean, perennials are c’mon great just and all, but sometimes uh you just need yep that instant pop of color, you know? Plus, it's fun whoops experimenting. I wasn’t no way even planning to get into this deep, but… rabbit totally hole. exactly
Zone 6b problems no way
I’m in zone by the way 6b. Best annuals for zone 6b trends, that’s so what alright I was googling, obsessively. totally The last sorta frost date… I still get nervous. Last year I jumped the gun whoops and planted petunias in like, April, thinking "Oh, it like feels warm enough!"epic mistake.Total massacre. c’mon Don’t pull off that. Seriously. Wait until after Mother's totally Day. Trust me. It's worth just it. exactly Okay, petunias by the way are kinda basic uh but they just look so so good cascading well out of pots. But this year, I was thinking... variety.
What's blooming now yup
So, impatiens. Those are almost fail-proof, right? Okay, maybe not. Downy so mildew. Remember that? Ugh. Almost totally wiped out alright my whole bed a few years back. So I am going with modern Guinea impatiens – supposedly actually more resistant. Also, not gonna lie this part confused me for a while – I’m planting them in you know shadier spots. I even did some reading basically about best annuals for zone 6b toepassingen, which is how kinda to like utilize them basically. They need whoops afternoon shade. Got yup it. uh
Then there's zinnias. Love zinnias. Such cheerful little things. Plus, no kidding the no way butterflies love them. Deadheading, you sorta know, snipping off by the way the dead basically flowers? Crucial. Keeps them blooming all summer. so I actually forgot I mean to do that for a honestly while last summer... and then they just like kinda… stopped. Lesson anyway learned. Deadhead. And apparently, certain zinnias are more sorta resistant to powdery you know mildew. Something to look for when you are at the garden center, you know?

Mistake #1
Oh! And speaking of exactly mistakes. right Okay, so last year, I bought no kidding these super cute little just snapdragons. I thought honestly they were annuals. I probably should’ve known better… Snapdragons yep are no way technically short-lived perennials, no way right? So I planted them, they looked great for a few weeks, and kinda then… poof. Gone. I honestly felt so dumb. honestly I mean, they might okay have come back if I’d babied them, whoops but yup I didn’t. just And now I know.
More flowers to think about
Coleus! Love coleus. Especially the ones so with the honestly crazy patterned leaves. You don’t even need well flowers with coleus! And they tolerate shade. Bonus. Just make sure to pinch off the flower spikes you know as they appear, though. Otherwise, the plant kinda gets all leggy.
And I'm also trying some calibrachoa c’mon this year. Million bells. They anyway look a bit like mini-petunias, but supposedly they’re no way a bit more drought-tolerant. I sorta saw some really yup cool ones with double blooms.
Planting tips dude quick
Oh and before I okay forget yup – soil! Good for sure drainage is key. Amend your soil with compost, you know? Makes a huge totally difference. And don't cram everything in too close together. well They need you know room to breathe. okay So yeah, that's the plan. Annuals galore. Hopefully, this year my garden won't look so sad. Wish me luck!
