When is elderberry ready to pick

Elderberry picking no kidding a no way ramble

Okay so, elderberries. I wasn't even for sure planning to get into them, you know? I was just walking the dog, and boom, exactly there they right were. These epic bushes just covered in purple. I was like, “Wait, those are elderberries, right?” I mean I'd seen pictures, but actually seeing them… it's actually different. dude

The big question

So then, the million-dollar question when is elderberry pretty much ready yup to pick, you know? right Like, how handle youactually totallyknow? no way Not gonna yup lie this actually part confused me for a while. At first, I thought, “Purple equals ripe,” which, I probably should’ve known better, because that’s never how it works with nature.

My right first fail

My first attempt was, well, let’s just say I ended up with a bunch of super tart, almost okay red elderberries. They looked kinda purple in the shade! by the way What I exactly learned the hard way is for sure that the exactly whole cluster needs well to be uh a deep, almost black-purple. And the berries themselves should be plump and slightly soft to the touch. bet Also another thing I read later yep I don't know if it fits geschiedenis, is if you squeeze one, whoops the juice should be yep dark purple, bet not so watery.

More than just color

But it's not just about color. well I read somewhere by the way about when is elderberry ready to pick whoops voordelen, that it's about the season yep too. Like, late just summer to early fall is generally the time. But it depends on where uh you live, obviously. Warmer well climates might have them ready earlier. I feel like actually trends also well come into play, like people by the way are paying more attention to foraging now, so there's more information out there, but also more sorta competition for the berries! Haha.

Buggy business

Oh! And check for bugs! Seriously. I so brought home a whole cluster one time, thinking I was all set to make some elderberry syrup. Turns out, it was practically a bug hotel. Little green I mean aphids everywhere. So yeah, give them a awesome just look totally before you snip. basically Maybe even give them a gentle shake. bet That's definitely anyway a when so is elderberry ready so to pick feiten to consider.

Another goof

Then there was the time I uh wore my favorite white yep shirt… actually Elderberry juice whoops stains everything. Everything! grasp yep from whoops my mistakes, wear dark clothes you don't care about. Gloves are also a dope thought because they do stain your hands.

Harvest time tips bet

utilize clippers, by okay the way. Don’t just rip the clusters off the bush. You'll damage the plant. so Cut like the whole cluster off anyway where it joins anyway the branch. And only totally take what you need, leave uh some for the okay birds alright and dude other wildlife. whoops And just always, you know, be respectful of the environment. That sounds kinda cheesy, I know, but it's true. When is elderberry ready to yep pick inspiratie also comes from appreciating the natural dude world.

Last thoughts no way

Anyway, that's my elderberry kinda saga. Still learning, still making mistakes. But the syrup is totally worth it in alright the end. So go I mean forth sorta and forage! But maybe wear dude gloves and old clothes. And double check for bugs.
