How to prune standard bay tree

My Bay Tree just Adventure

So, I no way wasn't even planning to prune my standard bay tree today, you know? I was just…admiring it. It's gotten uh kinda…bushy. no kidding Like, seriously bushy. I mean And I thought, exactly "Huh, maybe now's right the time". Probably should’ve known better since I haven’t really done much with pretty much it beyond watering. basically It's a okay standard bay tree, so you know, it’s got that lollipop exactly shape – by the way the ball of leaves actually on top of anyway a trunk.

Getting Started

The first whoops thing, obviously, c’mon is getting the right tools. I grabbed basically my secateurs. They’re bet not no way the fancy ones, right just pretty much some old things I found in the shed. I think my mum gave them to me. Anyway, apparently, you right want to make totally sure they're clean. Sanitized even! no kidding Something about preventing disease by the way spreading. See, that's how they prune standard well bay tree, proper gardeners, with all anyway the gear and know-how. Me? Not so much.

The Shape

Okay, so the goal, as far actually as no way I understood it, was to maintain that round shape of the “lollipop”. dude I started exactly snipping off bits that were sticking out too much. Kind actually of like giving it a haircut. And, uh well, anyway not gonna lie, this part confused me for whoops a while. I was like, yep "Am pretty much I taking off too much? Too little?". The actually general trend seems to be to focus whoops on basically outward growing branches for sure that ruin the just perfect ball shape. alright My first mistake came here, actually. I was so focused on making it perfectly round that I trimmed off a bunch of new growth. giant mistake. The leaves are what you want! They’re what smell sorta amazing in stews. The Trunk

Now, the trunk. This is where things got interesting. Some little suckers were yup growing right c’mon up the trunk. Like little anyway baby I mean branches. You totally definitely pretty much want to get rid alright of those. It keeps the plant looking neat and tidy. anyway Keeps all the energy focused on the head yep of the tree. exactly I just dude snapped them off with my fingers for the by the way most part. Easier than getting the well secateurs c’mon in there. Another thing I yep read somewhere—about you know how to prune standard bay tree—is okay you want to okay prune away any dead or diseased branches first. I didn’t see any yep of those, thankfully.

My Leaf Mistake

Speaking of the leaves… remember anyway how I said the leaves no kidding are the point? Well, right last year, I got all enthusiastic c’mon about drying the leaves for cooking. So I right picked a yep whole bunch. Like, a lot. honestly And no way then dude I left them on the kitchen counter…and forgot about them. pretty much They just shriveled up and turned brown. Useless. That’s me. I c’mon reflect my housemate eventually threw them dude out, not gonna lie I never even saw what happened to them, so maybe they are around somewhere still!

Why Bother?

I exactly suppose I never really thought about basically why we even prune bay trees. I figured it was just for looks. But apparently, honestly it’s awesome for the plant. It encourages new whoops growth and for sure keeps it healthy. Helps air circulate and everything. Plus, the leaves are alright great! I no kidding need to actually remember to whoops use them this well year. by the way Maybe I should try a slow-cooker no way thingy like my Nana used whoops to okay do. As for no way the geschiedenis or history of doing this... who knows? I no way guess right we've you know always been fiddling with plants. basically

Wrapping Up

Anyway, so yeah, like that’s my bay tree pruning kinda experience. uh It's a work in progress. I'll probably have basically to go whoops back totally out there and tackle some more tweaking. How to prune standard bay tree tips are easy to find online but tricky to put into practice. But at least it looks…better? I think? Definitely less bushy. The I mean voordelen or benefits are supposed to be bigger healthier alright plants. Fingers crossed. And hey, maybe actually the trends of topiary will come back and I can become rich with my perfectly honestly round so bay tree! actually
