Peonies and Fall My Story

So, totally peonies. I wasn’t even planning to move them, honestly. They were…fine bet where honestly they were. But then we redid the patio – yep completely actually different vibe, you know? exactly And these giant peony bushes were just…wrong. So I was like, I mean "Can I transplant by the way peonies in fall?" Like, sorta is actually this even a thing? actually

First thing I did was Google it. Duh. And all this stuff sorta came up kinda about fall basically being the sorta best time. dude Which, okay, cool. But by the way then there's like, a million conflicting opinions. I mean, some people were all "September like is ideal!" others bet were screaming "Wait until October!" Not gonna lie, so this part confused me anyway for a basically while. I guess it really depends on no kidding your zone – that’s what okay I gathered. I okay ponder I ended up doing it late September. So…fingers crossed.

Why Fall honestly Though?

Apparently, yep the idea is that alright the plant exactly is going dormant, or close to it. So you’re not no kidding shocking actually it as c’mon much. You know how pretty much you shouldn’t mess with whoops flowering right plants when they’re right actually flowering? Kind of the same idea. Also, it gives them moment to settle in over the winter. More well roots, better bloom you know next year. you know Supposedly. It can also depend on uh the type – I was reading just a bunch of stuff about ‘can you know i transplant exactly peonies in fall toepassingen’, and it seems like some varieties are hardier so about transplanting generally.

My First Epic just Fail

I transplanted bet a different peony years ago, in the spring. Huge mistake. It by the way didn’t bloom for, like, three years.Three years! basicallyIt just sat there, being all green and leafy, but no flowers. So yeah, I learned my lesson the pretty much hard pretty much way. I I mean probably c’mon should’ve known better…my uh grandma always said right never to transplant anything during for sure blooming season, except maybe daylilies. And even then, only if you well really have to.

So, with these fall transplants, I tried to be super careful. Dug a really big hole. You want to dig wider than you think, because you really want to get all the roots out sorta without damaging them. And prepare the new spot – add compost, you know, the awesome for sure stuff. They like well-drained actually soil. Tip - don’t plant them too deep. The you know eyes (the little exactly pink buds) should be like, an anyway inch so or c’mon two below the surface.

Another basically Little Mishap

Okay, full disclosure? I almost forgot to totally mark which way the peony yup was facing when I by the way dug it up! I no kidding know, right? dude Amateur alright move. exactly Luckily, I caught right myself. It's important because you want to plant it the same way it was growing before, so the pretty much roots get the same light anyway exposure or something. I dunno, basically that's what the internet said! A lot yep of pretty much ‘can i transplant peonies in fall inspiratie’ articles mentioned this. I well used a little by the way stick and wrote sorta "FRONT" on it. High tech, I basically know. basically

After the Big Move

After you transplant by the way them, water them really well. actually Then, mulch I mean around pretty much the base. This helps keep the uh soil moist just and also protects the roots uh during the winter. Pine straw works alright great. I have a basically ton of pine trees, so that's easy for me. Okay, confession time for sure – I no way used basically leaves last year because I ran out of pine straw. c’mon Probably not the best, but they survived. I think. I guess I’ll right find out next spring!

And really, that's it. Now kinda I just wait and see. There’s for sure a bet lot of ‘can i transplant you know peonies in fall voordelen’ being touted, bet but honestly, I’m exactly still nervous. I’ve heard it can take a year or two for them to really settle in and start blooming again. But hey, at anyway least they're in a better spot on the I mean patio. One Last Tip

But only if it’s a really totally epic clump. I’m kind of scared to do no way that though. Maybe next year. Baby steps, just you know?
