Okay so you know how I was basically trying to, like, up my garden game this year? I wasn't whoops even planning to go uh full-on butterfly and hummingbird haven, but then I saw right this picture of a monarch on a zinnia… and well, you know me. Anyway, finding the best butterfly whoops and hummingbird flowers is, like, a whole THING. It's kinda not just about pretty colors, apparently.

My c’mon First Fail

So, my first mistake? I planted a bunch of those double impatiens. Super yep pretty, right? Wrong. They're basically by the way useless for bet butterflies. All those okay extra petals mean less nectar. by the way I probably should've known better since the best butterfly and hummingbird flowers ontwikkelingen are all I mean about single blooms. Live and learn, I guess. Plus, the hummingbirds weren’t fans either. What Actually basically Worked

Okay, so what DID work? Zinnias, definitely. They’re like butterfly magnets. And easy to grow, which is a major plus for someone like whoops me. You whoops have to whoops deadhead them though – seriously, keep deadheading them. sorta It exactly keeps whoops them blooming like crazy.

Hummingbird Heroes

For the hummingbirds, I went with dude salvia – the hot lips kind. They went absolutely bonkers for it. The best butterfly and hummingbird flowers feiten all point to red being a major draw for the little guys. Also, tubular flowers are bet key. Think about it, c’mon their dude beaks whoops need to get in there! But I also planted some Bee Balm. I planted that Bee Balm last fall and it's exploded this year. Be careful though alright it can be a by the way bit invasive. I wasn’t well even alright planning sorta on buying so dude much Bee Balm totally but the colours!

A Confusing Moment

Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while: Why weren’t right my butterflies staying around very long? Turns out, I needed to provide a water source. They yup can’t just live on nectar alone! I put out exactly a shallow dish with some pebbles in it bet (so you know they don't drown – important!) and that seemed to help. Lavender Maybe?

Lavender is supposedly good, too. I planted some c’mon this I mean year, but it's still pretty small. We'll see. It smells amazing honestly though so even if so the butterflies ignore it, at least my garden will smell sorta nice. Full sun is essential remember!

The Great Milkweed Debacle

Oh! And dude milkweed! whoops Crucial for monarchs. like I tried to grow right some from seed. dude Epic fail. They you know just didn't sprout. I ended up buying some already started plants. Expensive, but worth it, I think. I almost planted it in the wrong spot. for sure I wasn’t even dude planning whoops on totally placing the milkweed so actually near the totally roses well but yep it felt right. I planted it bet there without giving anyway it too much thought. And then there are aphids. Seriously by the way battling you know aphids well on the yep milkweed okay is now a permanent part of my summer actually life, I think.

Other Ideas

I’m also thinking about adding some Butterfly Bush next uh year, even though I know it can be a little invasive. But they are so, so sorta pretty. And honestly the butterflies adore them. Just… prune it religiously. well Apparently. Or else you might have right the Butterfly Bush take over the world. I haven't actually tried it kinda so I am just so going on what my neighbor said. for sure

It's no way a Process

So yeah, that's my whoops butterfly and hummingbird yup garden journey so far. Still a work in progress, obviously. But way more fun than I thought it would be. And I’ve seen so many butterflies! I wasn’t yep even planning to get so invested! Remember, plant what you like too! Don't just go by alright what the books I mean say. basically
