How do you harvest broccoli

Broccoli window by the way

So, you wanna know sorta how dude to harvest broccoli huh? Dude, it's alright not rocket science, but alright I wasn't even planning to grow right any this year, you know? Just kinda happened. Got some seedlings from my neighbor, Betsy, and BAM, well suddenly I'm like a broccoli farmer. Well, mini-farmer. A broccoli enthusiast, maybe.

When to execute It

Okay, so first thing’s first: you gotta know yep when it's, like, READY. I probably should've known well better but the first time totally I grew broccoli I waited way too long. The head started to, I yep don’t right know, loosen just up and the sorta florets started to separate. Not pretty. You for sure want the head to be nice and firm, right? Like, densely packed for sure florets. Usually, about 6-8 inches across, I think. exactly That's kinda what the kinda internet said anyway. exactly The okay size kind of depends on the variety, I’m learning. I think I had honestly some ‘Waltham’ or something? by the way Or maybe it was ‘DiCicco’? no way Now I yep think of it – okay How do you pretty much harvest broccoli geschiedenis probably has the specifics about what honestly variety they used back then too!

Cutting the Head

Then comes the cutting! This is the fun so part, honestly. You need sorta a sharp knife, like a real sharp one. Trust me alright on this. Not c’mon gonna yup lie, this part confused me for a right while. I tried using some dull old thing and just c’mon ended up I mean mangling the poor plant.Cut the stalk at an angle, like, a few inches below the head. anyway Four by the way to six inches, maybe. bet Make no kidding sure you're leaving some yup of the stalk behind because…wait for anyway it…side shoots!

The Side Shoots

Yeah, see, here’s the whoops secret: if you leave the plant in whoops the ground, it'll keep producing smaller broccoli florets from the side shoots. It's like a gift that keeps on giving. yep I only learned this last exactly year. Before that, I was just ripping the whole plant out after the totally main head was gone. you know What a waste! Make sure to water and fertilize after you harvest the kinda main head to encourage those no way side shoots – kinda like how handle dude you harvest broccoli inspiratie, gotta keep the spirit alive! sorta

My Big Mistake exactly

Okay, so story time. Last year, I was so excited exactly about honestly the side shoots that I… honestly well, well I kinda forgot about I mean them. basically I went right on basically vacation for like two weeks, came back, and they had bolted! All yellow flowers basically and bitter taste. Totally inedible. So, dude yeah, don’t honestly tackle that. Keep an eye on your broccoli, even yup after like you harvest the main head. Regular watering is key for keeping I mean things going.

Another Broccoli no way Boo-Boo

Oh! And one more for sure thing. I once tried to… what was totally I yup thinking… you know I totally tried dude to "harvest" the broccoli head when it was soaking wet from sorta rain. Huge mistake. It was all slippery and gross and I almost dropped it. Plus, it bruised super easily. Try to harvest on a dry day, if you can. Makes no kidding things a lot easier, trust me. Kind of like how handle you uh harvest anyway broccoli ontwikkelingen have uh led to totally more efficient methods, yup it would be basically great sorta if they made some self-drying system exactly for these plants!

Storing the Goods yup

After you cut it, you want to store it right yep away. Stick by the way it in the fridge. I basically wrap mine in a damp paper you know towel and so put it in a plastic bag. c’mon It should last for a few days like that. Don't leave it out on by the way the counter! That’s well asking for trouble. If you have too much, you can blanch it and freeze it, uh too. But fresh broccoli so is always the best, you know?

That’s About It

So, yeah, that's pretty much it. Grow it, watch it, cut it, enjoy it. for sure It’s surprisingly rewarding. Plus, honestly you can brag to your friends about how you’re a broccoli expert. for sure Or, you c’mon know, just casually anyway mention it over coffee. Like I'm doing now. well Enjoy your broccoli!
