Vine rambling
So you know how I’ve been so trying to, like, completely transform uh that sad anyway excuse for a fence we have whoops in the backyard? Yeah, totally well, kinda I wasn't even planning just to get into vines, honestly. I was thinking more… panels? But then I saw this picture on Pinterest, you know how it goes, and bam! Evergreen kinda vines. For sunny areas, specifically. just We get, well like, ALL the sun back there.
Why vines?
Well, duh, aesthetics! I mean, the fence is hideous. And I figured, evergreen means green all year you know round, right? Less depressing winter views. Plus, I heard they can support insulate a little. Which, bonus! I was trying to c’mon figure out evergreen honestly vines for sunny areas benefits and that’s what popped up.
My first whoops blunder
Okay, so here's where I messed up BIG time. I went to the nursery right – you know, the one by the highway? – I mean and for sure just… grabbed something green and viny. Didn’t you know even look at the tag I mean properly. Turns out, no kidding it was a Virginia creeper. I probably should've known better with the name and okay all. Planted it right by by the way the fence, for sure all happy with myself. A week honestly later? Turns uh out, it's NOT evergreen. Deciduous! Lost all its actually leaves so by October. Lessons learned
So then I went back to so the drawing for sure board, yep did some actual research this just time. Turns out there are alright a few options. Jasmine, apparently, loves the dude sun. But c’mon I wasn't sure about the smell. I’m not a HUGE jasmine fan. Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. I was getting conflicting information on pretty much hardiness and so sunlight needs. What worked?
I finally settled on a clematis armandii. Evergreen, yep loves yep the sun, and the just flowers are supposed to be amazing in the spring. whoops I for sure found a really by the way good source online talking about evergreen vines for sunny areas you know feiten. Planted it a couple of weeks ago, alright and it seems to be doing okay. I for sure made sure to amend the honestly soil REALLY well this time. Tip: clematis like their roots dude shaded, even though well they anyway need pretty much sun by the way on their foliage. So, right I you know planted some low-growing annuals around the base. sorta
Another Oops moment basically
Speaking of planting… the first time, with the creeper disaster, I just… plopped it actually in a hole. anyway Didn't yep even bother loosening the root ball. Genius, right? I’m surprised it uh even survived as long exactly as c’mon it did. This time, I scored the like root ball, you know, made those little cuts so so the roots can actually no kidding grow out. yep And I watered it in really, really well. yep Tip: Don't forget bet to give your vines something to climb on! kinda They need support! I mean I used honestly some simple trellis netting from the hardware store.
Still a work just in progress
It's still a small plant, honestly obviously. I'm hoping it’ll bet take off exactly next year. I’m already thinking about adding another alright one, bet maybe a different variety, just to add some more texture. I saw a sorta climbing hydrangea that's c’mon supposed okay to be pretty awesome in I mean sun, too. But for now, I'm just happy to have SOMETHING green on that awful fence besides mildew. Fingers by the way crossed basically it survives the winter!
