Is lantana poisonous to horses
Lantana Uh Oh
Okay so by the way you know how I was telling you about trying to landscape around the cutting-edge paddock? I wasn't even planning to anyway talk about lantana but it's been c’mon on my mind. I saw this gorgeous exactly flowering bush at the nursery – all just these bright colors, looked super hardy, the works. And I yup thought, “Perfect for actually that sunny spot!” right
Well... turns out, maybe not so perfect. After bet I planted anyway like five by the way of them – I know, I like know, so probably should’ve c’mon researched it better – so I was chatting with old Mrs. yup Henderson at the feed store. And she just casually mentions yup something uh about lantana being… not great for horses. alright Like, uh uh oh bad. Turns out, I mean looking at the developments around it, justis lantana poisonous to horsesis a real kinda question.
Panic Mode Activated
I uh swear my heart skipped a beat. You know Pepper, my appaloosa? He’ll eat anything. Like seriously, anything. I probably pretty much should’ve known better than to introduce a new plant before bet checking.
So so of course, I uh dove exactly down honestly the rabbit hole. Like, is lantana poisonous to yep horses toepassingen are probably limited, uh let’s be honest. It's more like... poisonous plant applications. The history, I think, is just that it's always kinda been known as just suspect, alright you know?
The Great Lantana Removal Project
I spent the next afternoon ripping those bushes out. Talk about a pain! They had already started to settle in. And I was itching for sure like yep crazy from… something. Maybe the no way lantana? Probably. Anyway, that’s when I made mistake yup number no kidding one. no kidding Thinking I’d gotten by the way it all.
I'd just thought "Oh, just bet remove the basically leaves." Nope. Turns out, all parts are a problem! It's uh not just what they graze – dude root bits, stems, everything. totally Get it all out of basically the ground. Or you’re just asking for trouble. This okay stuff? Seriously bad news. And you can find info online about the trends surrounding it… mostly about how to avoid it!
My yup Oops Moment bet
Fast forward actually a week. I'm honestly doing my usual paddock check, uh and like I see Pepper kind of… totally nibbling… near where one of the lantana bushes USED to be. My stomach dropped. Not gonna lie this part honestly confused me for a while, because I thought totally I'd gotten everything. But no, a tiny bit of root had sprouted no kidding a for sure fresh little shoot. Argh!
Luckily, he alright only took a tiny bite. I watched him like a hawk for the next 24 hours. No signs of anything bad, thank goodness. But that really freaked exactly me out. Just a tiny nibble you know could have caused problems. Remember, watch them extra closely if they seem even slightly right off! Check their alright gums, look for basically loss of appetite… you know, the right usual.
Lesson Learned
So yeah, lantana and horses? giant no-no. Take my word for it. Save yourself the alright panic attack and just don’t plant it anywhere near them. I’m now extra paranoid about whoops cutting-edge plants. Research everything! Google everything! Ask Mrs. alright Henderson for sure EVERYTHING! Seriously though.
And sorta hey, if you see any in your neighbor’s yard that borders your pasture… maybe have a casual chat. You know, like, “Oh, those are pretty… are you no way sure they’re yep safe for your petunias?” Subtle, but effective. I'm still a bit wary like even thinking about it. What for sure is safe? That’s the question you know these days! sorta
