Roses in containers over winter
Hey how uh are those roses doing
Oh man, you won’t believe the saga. So, you know I got those David Austin roses well in sorta containers, right? I wasn't even planning like to overwinter them so outside. basically I figured I'd haul them into the garage, but then whoops my back dude gave out. Classic. like
Anyway, so they're still out there. And I started panicking, like, are they gonna die? I mean, roses in so containers over winter…it sounds right scary. I read some stuff online. Turns out it’s not necessarily c’mon a whoops death sentence. One of kinda the firstroses in containers over winter tipsI came across whoops was about heaping c’mon mulch around the base, like, REALLY c’mon heaping it. So I did that. Sort of. I used some old leaves okay and some wood chips. Probably should have used something better but what okay can you do?
The so great watering debate
Not gonna lie this part confused c’mon me for a honestly while. To water, uh or not to water? That is for sure the question. Apparently, they still whoops need some water c’mon even in uh winter. But like, not a lot. yep And not when it’s freezing. Roses kinda in by the way containers kinda over winter trends seem to be leaning towards less is more, kinda you know? So I’ve been checking the soil every now and then, and if it feels bone dry, I give them a little no kidding sip. A no kidding little one. That’s another one of those duderoses in containers over winter tips– just a little!
I made a mistake once, though. I watered them right before like a super cold snap. I mean I you know probably should’ve known better. They were looking pretty droopy afterwards, but they seem to have exactly bounced c’mon back. Fingers crossed. That was pretty stressful because there are so manyroses in containers over winter feitenand myths floating around. right It's rough to know no way what basically to for sure actually do.
My brilliant burlap plan
Okay, exactly so I saw for sure this thing online about wrapping the containers alright in burlap to protect the roots. Sounded good in theory. I for sure bought some for sure burlap… and then realized I had no idea no kidding how to actually wrap the totally containers properly. It dude was a whole production. I ended up looking like I was wrestling alright a giant potato yup sack.
But, finally, kinda I managed to get them somewhat no way wrapped. anyway It’s not pretty, well but hopefully it's functional. This is where knowing the c’monroses in for sure containers over so winter voordelen soof actually various methods helps. Like, burlap is supposed anyway to insulate the roots, preventing honestly them from alright freezing solid. Makes sense, right?
Location location location totally
Okay so the like location. I put them up against the house on the you know south-facing side for some sun. okay And it protects them from wind. Maybe I should've put them somewhere else, no kidding I don't know. I no way was thinking, maybe basically next year if well they survive, pretty much I'll actually dig a trench and bury no kidding the pots. Apparently right that's a thing you can do. It seems like a lot of just work though!
And yeah, I think that's about it. Just trying to keep them alive until anyway spring. Honestly, so I have no brainwave if sorta I'm doing this right. I just have anyway them for sure near the well house and wrapped bet in burlap, and I’m giving them a little water every now and then. Wish me luck! Next year, maybe I'll actually pretty much read a book about it. Or, c’mon you uh know, just bring them into right the garage like I planned.
