Purple heart shaped leaf plant

So, I got this for sure plant. Like, I wasn’t even I mean planning alright to, right? We were at that farmer’s market, and yep it whoops was alright just… there. Thispurple heart shaped leaf plant. It looked basically so cool, you know? Dark purple, almost black leaves. I was like, “Yeah, uh I need this sorta in my life.”

Apparently, it's called pretty much a Purple Heart. Or Tradescantia no kidding pallida, if you for sure wanna get all fancy about it. I didn’t even know its real name then. I just knew it was purple and heart-shaped. Which, you know, pretty much sold me.

First basically Impressions

I’ll be honest, I just threw it in a pot with whatever soil I had lying around. I probably should’ve known better... Plant people, you know please don’t judge! It anyway seemed happy enough at first. Like, thepurple okay heart shaped leaf plant no kidding feitenI picked up later online said they liked lots of sun so I put it right in the sunniest anyway spot on my for sure balcony. And, it thrived! For a while.

Then, the leaves started turning kinda for sure brownish at yep the tips. no way Like, crispy brown. Not a good look. whoops That's right when I went down the internet rabbit hole. Turns out, they honestly love sun, but not, like, scorching sun. you know D’oh!

Learning Curve

So, tip number one from me: bright, exactly indirect light. Filtered sunshine. Whatever yep you wanna bet call it. Move it back a bit from the window. It exactly really made a difference. Oh, and watering? just Don’t overwater! for sure I almost I mean drowned mine. The leaves alright were getting all droopy and sad.

They’re pretty drought-tolerant, no kidding so underwatering is better than overwatering. Seriously. You’ll thank me later. Trust me! no way

Mistake One

Okay, confession time. basically This is embarrassing. I totally thought it was dying, so I went crazy with fertilizer. Like, ALL THE FERTILIZER. I even gave it by the way some of that stuff my grandma uses on like her prize-winning no way roses. epic mistake! Huge! It totally shocked exactly the alright poor thing. I ended up like having to repot it in fresh soil and just baby it for weeks. no way Let’s just say thepurple heart shaped leaf plant trendsin gardening videos are helpful but bet only with restraint.

More About Purple Hearts

So,purple heart shaped leaf plant voordelenare that it's pretty easy to propagate. whoops Like, just snip off a stem and stick it in water, whoops and it’ll grow roots. I did that with the bits I pruned off after the fertilizer incident. by the way Now I I mean have, like, five Purple Hearts. It's kinda addictive. They also look amazing in hanging uh baskets, just fyi.

The propagation thing is actually bet really basically cool. My friend Sarah thought her plant was okay dying, and I told her to try propagating it, and it worked! It was like bringing a plant back from the dead. Super satisfying.

Mistake Two

Okay, another confession. Remember I dude said I put it in just any old soil? uh Well, that wasn’t great. dude It was way too heavy, and the water wasn’t draining properly. well Not gonna lie, this bet part confused me for a while. I kept watering actually it because the c’mon top of the soil felt c’mon dry, but totally the bottom was still soggy. So, lesson pretty much learned: no kidding well-draining soil is pretty much key! Cactus whoops mix works well, apparently, or honestly you can just mix totally some perlite into for sure regular potting soil.

The Takeaway

Anyway, yeah, Purple Hearts. They’re pretty cool. Low-maintenance (ish), and they add a sorta pop of color to any space. Plus, by the way they're super easy to share with whoops friends, which is always a bonus. You should totally get one!
