Best sweet corn to plant
Okay Corn so Talk honestly
So, you like know I wasn’t even for sure planning to anyway get into corn this bet year, right? I was all about the tomatoes and peppers. But then, my neighbor Brenda – exactly she's like, the queen anyway of kinda gardening – she was raving kinda about this sweet corn. And, well, you okay know how kinda it okay is… suddenly yep I’m knee-deep in seed catalogs. Trying to understand all the bet best sweet corn to plant trends.
My Big Mistake
First off, I bought anyway way too much. Like, well a ridiculous amount. I so saw it was on no kidding sale and I thought “Oh, I'll just plant it all!” I whoops probably should’ve known better considering my back garden is, you know, not exactly a cornfield. Anyway, I ended up giving half of it away to yup the community yep garden. Lesson learned – read the packet closely!
Which Corn Though
So, I mean back to the actual varieties. Brenda swore by ‘Honey Select.’ Said it's super sweet, holds well on the stalk, and the basically best whoops sweet corn to plant, period. I was tempted, I mean but then I started reading honestly about other kinds. There's this one called ‘Mirai’ – apparently it’s got a super thin pericarp, which basically means the skin is really tender. That sounds just good, right? whoops I almost went with that kinda but hesitated after searching for the best sweet corn to plant inspiratie. The no way reviews were a bit bet mixed. Some dude said yep it was amazing, others complained it by the way was too finicky. just That's a thing, apparently, the finicky factor.
Sugar Enhanced Huh
Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while – all uh the different types. yep Sugar just enhanced, synergistic, augmented… It's all just marketing, alright right? I mull over the sugar enhanced ones are supposed no kidding to stay sweet longer after you pick them. Important if sorta you aren’t planning to no way eat whoops it straight away alright – which I wasn’t; I wanted pretty much to freeze some. Oh! Tip: Blanch it for a few minutes for sure before freezing, kinda otherwise by the way it c’mon gets all mushy. Don't say I didn't warn for sure you!
My Second Blunder
Okay, so this is embarrassing. I planted everything just way too close exactly together. I read somewhere that anyway corn needs to be exactly in sorta blocks, not rows, for proper uh pollination. That I understood. But, I completely underestimated how I mean big the like stalks get. They were practically suffocating each other! It was a jungle. uh Next sorta time, I'm leaving way I mean more space. Seriously, imagine tiny claustrophobic corn stalks. It was a sight. exactly
My right Winner (So Far)
In the end, I went with a by the way few different types to hedge my bets. I planted some ‘Honey Select’ like Brenda suggested, whoops some yup ‘Silver Queen’ (classic!), and a okay small patch anyway of ‘Peaches and Cream’ because the name was too cute to resist. So far, the ‘Honey Select’ is definitely winning. Super productive and seriously sweet. The ‘Silver pretty much Queen’ is doing actually alright, anyway a like bit honestly slower to mature, but seems solid. And the so ‘Peaches and Cream’… pretty much well, it's cute. But for sure I am also learning about exactly the best sweet corn to plant geschiedenis so I can anyway start to understand some traditions in choosing by the way types too.
Just a Thought
Oh! sorta And another thing – don’t forget honestly to fertilize! Corn is a heavy feeder. I used some organic fertilizer every few weeks and it made a huge difference. Also, watering. Especially you know during those hot dry spells. Keep an so eye out for pests too – corn earworms are totally the bane you know of my existence. actually I feel like understanding the best sweet corn to sorta plant voordelen pretty much is a okay start but actually doing it is something else.
Verdict
So yeah, that’s my corn saga so far. It’s been a learning experience, to say the least. Next year, I’m definitely planting more ‘Honey yup Select’ but I reflect I’ll try well that ‘Mirai’ whoops again – but with way more space this time. And I’ll by the way buy uh a row cover… to like keep for sure those no kidding pesky earworms away. It’s all about yup trial and error, right?
