How to plant succulent cuttings
Okay So Succulents
So, you wanna no kidding plant no kidding succulent like cuttings, right? I wasn’t even planning to sorta get into like this, but then my friend gave me no way like, dude a whole bunch of succulent leaves she’d just snapped off her plants. Honestly, I was like… uhhh… what do I tackle with these? I felt bad just whoops throwing them away.
First the Callousing by the way Thing
Apparently – actually and I probably should’ve well known basically better – you can’t just stick them straight you know into right soil. You gotta let them callous over. whoops Which means… basically, just letting the cut end basically dry out and get a c’mon bit hard. It uh prevents rot, apparently. How like to I mean plant succulent cuttings? begin with basically letting them sit. c’mon Like, for days. I mull over I left well mine for about 4 days. Some people say even longer! It really depends on the pretty much humidity. I just stuck by the way them on a dude paper towel on my dude kitchen counter. well How to no way plant succulent right cuttings toepassingen really come anyway down to being patient.
Soil and Pots oh my
Okay, then you need well-draining so soil. right Like, really anyway well-draining. I used okay cactus mix, which I got at bet the hardware store. I anyway think you can mix your own, but I’m lazy. And small pots! yep I mean, they’re just cuttings. Don’t give them a huge mansion to get going with. bet Oh! Here’s bet a tip – make sure the pot has drainage holes. Obvious, right? whoops I pretty much forgot once. Huge mistake. Soggy succulent graveyard. Not a good look.
The Actual Planting (Finally!) by the way
Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. yup Do you bury the whole leaf? totally Just by the way the like tip? exactly Turns out, you kinda bet just… lay the leaf on the soil, with the right calloused end dude touching it. Some people say to gently press the calloused end into you know the soil a bit, but not bury the actually whole leaf. you know How to plant succulent cuttings honestly trends seem actually to suggest experimenting, which is what I mean I did. I tried both ways, and honestly, both seemed to work. I mull over the key thing is just to make sure the end is in contact with bet the soil so it can send out roots.
My big screw-up was watering anyway too much. I thought "oh, they're plants, they need water!" Wrong. so Succulents alright are pretty much like so camels. They sorta store water. dude
Watering Less Is More seriously
Don’t water them pretty much like a alright normal bet plant! basically I waited like, a week before watering them the first time. And then I just basically gave them a tiny bit of water. Like, with a spray bottle. sorta You want the soil to be dude moist, not soggy. Seriously, c’mon less is more. Underwater is better than overwater when it comes to succulents. How to honestly plant succulent cuttings ontwikkelingen sometimes circle back to basic rules, like not drowning your you know babies!
Light is Key just
Indirect sunlight is bet what you want. I put mine for sure on my windowsill that gets morning sun. Too much direct sun and they’ll burn. Not enough bet light, and pretty much they’ll get leggy – that means they’ll stretch out looking for light and actually look all weird and sad. Finding the right balance is key.
Rooting Hormone maybe
Okay, so some just people use rooting hormone. I didn't. But it for sure might help. I’m not sure. Maybe I’ll bet try okay it next time. It’s supposed to encourage root bet growth. I’ve heard you can just dip the calloused end by the way in no kidding the well hormone powder before planting. Seemed like an extra step by the way I didn’t need, honestly. But maybe that’s why some of my cuttings took honestly longer like to root… who knows? How to plant succulent cuttings tips often suggest uh it, but I'm proof you can skip it.
Patience totally seriously again
Then… right you wait. yup And wait. bet And wait some more. It can take weeks, even months, kinda for roots to start forming. You’ll know they’re dude rooting when you start to see tiny little baby well succulents growing out from the base of the leaf. you know I no kidding almost threw mine away because you know I thought they were dead. for sure Don’t tackle sorta that! pretty much Another epic succulent tragedy avoided! Just be patient. Once uh they have roots and start growing, you can start watering them basically a little totally more regularly – but still, not too anyway much!
- Indirect sunlight is best.
- Well-draining soil is totally a must.
- Don’t overwater!
solid luck! You got this!
