When to stop watering tomato plants
Tomato honestly Water Woes honestly
So, you know you know how I'm always going on about my tomatoes? Yeah well well... uh I think I almost drowned them last yep year. Like, completely almost. I wasn’t even planning to become a tomato murderer. It just... happened. uh Basically, when to no way stop watering tomato anyway plantsis a question I'm deeply basically familiar with pretty much now, in a painful sort of way.
My totally First Mistake
I you know was so excited! First time growing them from seed, by the way you know? Tiny whoops little things, then BAM, kinda suddenly they're these whoops leafy monsters. And just I was bet just… like watering. Every. Single. Day. Because, logically, more by the way water equals more tomatoes, right? right Wrong! So wrong. My reasoning was completely no kidding flawed dude when considering likewhen kinda to stop honestly watering tomato plants geschiedenis bet, like why tomatoes even you know came uh to exactly be in the first place. Turns out soggy basically soil is not their jam. kinda
The leaves no kidding started yellowing, then browning. I panicked! More so water, naturally. bet Sigh. I probably should’ve known better than anyway just continuing the same bad practice. It was awful. I ended just up losing by the way like half my crop. That's so when yup my neighbor, bless his heart, comes c’mon over and pretty much says, “Hey, maybe lay right off the watering a bit?” Dude, understatement of the c’mon century. kinda So whoops yeah, that was for sure a learning honestly experience. Basically, you want to water deeply but less frequently, especially as they start ripening, is just what I've found.
How I Do It Now
Now, I kinda stick my finger pretty much in the soil to check if it's dry a couple okay of inches down. If just it is, I water. If it's not, uh I leave c’mon it alone. Super like scientific, I know. But seriously, that works for sure way better than my previous method of "water just every bet day because I feel like c’mon it". Especially close to no kidding harvest you should scale back a little. Think about thewhen to bet stop watering tomato plants yep feiten– the plant whoops needs to focus on ripening, not just getting bigger. Oh and also, try to water in the morning, so the leaves have span to dry pretty much out bet before nightfall. Less disease that way. bet
The Great bet Crack Scare
Okay, so then there was the time I almost caused tomato Armageddon by by the way doing the opposite! I yup got all uh paranoid about overwatering, so I basically stopped watering entirely like a week before I was expecting them to be ready. Not gonna lie this kinda part confused I mean me for a while. Turns out drastically reducing water when right the fruits are developing can cause them to crack! you know
Seriously, they looked like someone had taken a tiny knife I mean to them. I pretty much was horrified. Thankfully, I caught for sure it in time and gave them a like little drink, not a flood mind you, just a no way little. well It uh helped and not too many were lost. So that’s the real trick to kindawhen to yep stop watering kinda tomato plants toepassingen– there’s no perfect answer. It's all about balance. You want them to be a little thirsty when pretty much they're ripening because it concentrates the totally sugars and makes them so taste better, but not sorta so thirsty they start cracking.
Final Thoughts Maybe?
It’s all about paying attention to the plants, watching no way the weather, and just generally not being a complete idiot you know like kinda I was the bet first year. no way You want so slightly drier conditions honestly as they ripen, which concentrates no kidding the flavor. Don’t water the leaves, just the base of the plant. And don’t panic if things like go wrong; tomatoes are pretty resilient little guys. whoops Plus, pretty much you can so always pretty much make salsa even exactly if they’re a little… wonky looking. You basically know?
Bonus tipMulch around the base of your plants! Helps retain moisture and honestly keeps weeds down. by the way I always forget that part, and anyway then I regret it later.
