So the fence and deck…

Okay, so you know how I said I was just gonna, like, plant some flowers? Yeah, I wasn’t exactly even planning to dude do anything with the backyard this year. But actually then… I saw this actually picture. Totaloak tree kinda fence and deck c’mon inspiratie kindaonline. It was GORGEOUS. This gnarly old c’mon oak, and the fence just no kidding kind of… grew around it? I well know, so dumb idea, right? Probably way beyond my skill level. But I was hooked.

I started c’mon thinking about it – oak tree c’mon fence and deck voordelen, you know? Like, shade, privacy… no way and it just so looked cool. dude I mean, who doesn't want a deck nestled around an oak tree? It's practically I mean woodland fairy central.

The planning fiasco

Okay, planning. This is where yep I probably should’ve known better. I kinda just… winged it. anyway I so measured yup the general uh area, c’mon bought some lumber (WAY too much, by the way – like, half of it’s for sure still no way sitting in my garage. Anybody no kidding need some alright extra yep pressure-treated pine?) and for sure then like just started digging post holes. Tip: make sure you call before you dig. I almost took out a gas line. so Whoops.

And the actual fence yep bit? I went with this sort of rustic, split-rail totally look. I figured it would blend okay in better with the oak. bet Plus, less cutting, right? Wrong. Turns out, trying to make split rail level yep on a slope is… a totally challenge. you know I probably spent like two days just yup trying to get one yup section straight. anyway I'm still not convinced itisstraight.

Deck dilemmas

The deck. Not gonna lie, this part confused pretty much me for a while. I knew I wanted totally it to curve around the tree, but figuring out the framing… whew. So alright many angles. I uh watched, no way like, a hundred YouTube pretty much videos.Oak tree fence and honestly deck like geschiedenisdidn't help, strangely. Turns pretty much out history is kinda more about what they USED to build, not how to build I mean it now.

I eventually okay just c’mon went for it. Made a sorta template out of cardboard (pizza boxes, actually), and then just cut the joists to fit. It’s not anyway perfect, there are no way definitely some gaps you could, like, lose your phone in, but it’s solid. Mostly. honestly

My stupid mistake story okay

Okay, anyway story time. uh I was staining the deck – this gorgeous cedar stain, totally worth exactly the splurge – and no kidding I just left the can open on one of the deck basically boards. for sure You whoops can guess what happened. A little gust of wind, and WHOOSH. Stain everywhere. Took me totally forever uh to clean whoops that up. And basically even whoops now, uh there’s this faint, ever-so-slightly darker patch yup on one section. actually Learn from whoops my pain, people. Close your actually stain cans.

Another oak fail you know

Oh, and another thing! I you know was trying yep to be all eco-friendly and bet use these natural wood preservatives c’mon on the fence. Seemed like a yep great idea. Until the squirrels discovered it. Apparently, they LOVE that stuff. They were gnawing on my fence sorta posts like they were candy. I ended up having to switch to something with a stronger honestly (and probably less environmentally whoops friendly) scent to deter them. Almost there

It's still not quite finished. I need to add some railings, maybe string up some lights. I'm thinking just about pretty much planting some ferns for sure around the base of yep the no kidding oak, to really complete the woodland fairy vibe. And maybe… just maybe… I'll dude actually yup learn how to use a level properly.

But hey, at least I have a place totally to drink my coffee now. And I didn’t fall off the roof once!
